Here are a few more pics from my trip to Nuuk! The last week in Nuuk, my friend Tonje Eliasson came to stay. Tonje is a journalist and a photographer based in Copenhagen. We are working on some exciting projects which hopefully will bring us back to Greenland soon.

POLKA POLKA

Greetings from Nuuk, Greenland! I've been here for a few weeks to write some new Stina Stjern stuff. The next album will be very much inspired by the fact that my Grandfather was a hunter in Northeast Greenland in 1954/1955. He was then in his mid twenties. He lived alone in the ice with his sledge dogs, shooting polar bears. The cabin where he lived was, and still is, located at Kap Herschell. I'm planning on going there, but that is an adventure that has to wait for now...  Nuuk was therefore the closest I could get the exciting tales of the young hunter at this point! It's been inspiring indeed and a few new songs just sprung out of the wonderful mix of icebergs and polka dancing! (I actually can't get enough of this Polka dancing...)

These days I'm busy writing new stuff for our upcoming album. Last week the Stina Stjern band was hanging out  here in Oslo, working on a few new songs. We even played a show at Adam & Eva Grønlandskvartalene's summer party.

Stina Stjern played a show at Musikkfest, Oslo last Saturday! We played at the Internasjonalen/Youngstorget - stage. It was great fun playing both good old and brand new stuff!

Thank you Tafjord!

Had the most wonderful weekend in Tafjord, Norway. Stina Stjern played a show at the small festival, Kulturgytinga, at Olagarden Friday night. I had the pleasure of hanging out all weekend and enjoyed the company of new friends, good music, spectacular nature, good coffee and home made svele. I'm now in Oslo preparing for klubbøya at Tilt tomorrow night! Wednesday we'll go to Kristiansand to play at Pir6. Wonderful to be back in Norway!

And what a Summer it is!

My home office is now open and I'm enjoying my coffee while trying to organize Stina Stjern stuff. The heavy rain outside makes me think of our performance at the Hove Festival a couple of weeks ago! It was quite wet but also kind of cozy. You can read more about it at Lydverket and Usignert. I also found out that I'm on this fine list of "Top Female Vocalists of All-time" at www.indierockreviews.com. Not too bad, huh? Coming up is a trip to Barcelona (vacation-time with my mom and sister) and 3 Stina Stjern shows in Norway in July and August! Check it out:

Getting ready for the summer!

Had the most amazing week practicing with my band here in Copenhagen. Stina Stjern sounds better than ever, and we are now fit for a summer to remember! First up is Gloria Flames, Oslo, Tuesday 28th June, and then we'll head for the HOVE festival.

Here is a wonderful rooftop solo dance by my dear friend Janet Konz. I love the choreography and it's spontaneous and naive vibe! I'm a big fan of solo dancing and loud pop music whenever I'm home alone! Please enjoy and be inspired!

It's good to be back!

I'm in New York now! Been here for a about a week just enjoying life and hanging out in my old hood Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Bushwick. Last week I played a solo show at Goodbye Blue Monday, and yesterday we made a DIY music video at my friend Janet's house. Think it will turn out great, but more about that later! Tonight We're going to Terminal 5 to see PJ Harvey! Can't wait! Got to love this life!

How my song Tuning was born

A year after I first moved to Denmark, in 2007, I started a band together with Thomas from the now defunct Danish rock act The Royal Highness. We named ourselves Saint Augustine, but didn't really do much as we were both extremely busy with everything besides Saint Augustine (although we started out quite ambitious and videotaped every rehearsal and posted it on youtube as a diary). It was however during this period my song Tuning first saw the light of day (although we decided to call it "Skissy India"). Check out parts of the songwriting process in this video and listen to the song on the Saint Augustine myspace page (FYI: I'm singing in gibberish):



And this is how it sounds, two years after its origin, on my debut album "Days Like Waves".

I guess you can say it sounds quite different, but you should be able to hear that it is the same song.

Fun fact: I first met Thomas while he worked at Cafe Svejk - an awesome bar selling Czech beer. He got me a job there as bartender, and we had good fun bartending while listening to many great rock albums. Thomas now works for Warner Music in Denmark and I have released my debut as Stina Stjern on my own record label Familien Marklund. Funny how things turn out in life and I am glad we both have achieved some of the many dreams we talked about during the Saint Augustine period.

I have been working on knitting this girl cardigan (see pictures below). Isn't it nice? And guess what? It can actually be yours!!! I love good old fashioned letters and postcards, so I was very excited when I opened my mail box and found this green envelope with my name written on it! Thank you so much Esther! I will of course write you back and send you a letter the way we did back in the days! Maybe we can be pen pals for real?

Days Like Waves on vinyl

Oh joy! So it happened. My vinyl has arrived. Just getting everything ready for release February 28. Among other more boring preparations I need to bundle it with download codes before it can be sold. I want everything to be perfect for those buying my music.

Please keep in mind that the album (CD, download, vinyl) will be available for pre-order here on this website pretty soon while members of my mailinglist will get a really good deal. I promise :-)

Yesterday night I played solo at a private party in Norway. My good friend Stian celebrated his 30 years together with his buddies Sigurd and Anders. The party was held at Beach Club in Oslo and I played some songs from my upcoming album. Good fun.
